JA Ourselves® introduces students to the intersection of financial literacy and early elementary grades social studies learning objectives. Through hands-on classroom activities, the learning experience provides students with an introduction to personal economics and the choices consumers make to meet their needs and wants. It also introduces students to the role of money in society while providing them with practical information about earning, saving, and sharing money.
Following participation in the learning experience, students will be able to:
-- Practice economics by making personal choices.
-- Understand that people have basic needs and wants and the difference between them.
-- Learn about ways to earn money.
-- Understand the importance of saving and having a savings goal.
-- Understand how to earn money to help others in the community.
JA Ourselves is recommended for kindergarten students. The learning experience offers flexible implementation options to meet the needs of students and teachers in a variety of use cases. It includes five 30-minute sessions, with additional extended learning activities and optional digital assets offered throughout. Spanish translation is available for JA Ourselves.
