JA Our Families®

JA Our Families curriculum cover
JA Our Families® introduces first graders to financial literacy and work and career readiness through exploring the roles and responsibilities of family members and how families work together to meet needs and wants. Students learn about the importance of jobs, money, and decision-making through fun stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, including a new design-and-build STEM session where they create and build tools to solve daily challenges. They begin to see how families are the building blocks of their community.

Following participation in the program, students will be able to:

-- Identify how everyone, including them, helps in a family.
-- Describe how families make money choices by considering what they spend on needs and wants, and what they choose to save.
-- Explain how jobs help provide goods and services for a family.

JA Our Families is recommended for students in first grade. The learning experience offers flexible implementation options to meet the needs of students and teachers in a variety of use cases. It includes five 30-minute sessions, with additional extended learning activities and optional digital assets offered throughout. Spanish translation is available for JA Our Families.

JA Learning Experiences support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, work and career readiness. Please see below for more information on alignment with national and state standards.
